- The crucifix situated at the Karl Marx monument in Neubrandenburg
The Karl-Marx figurine in Neubrandenburg has experienced vandalism once more. Based on police records, the statue's right arm took damage, and a swastika was scribbled on its torso.
An authority from the city administration spotted the statue's damages at the Swan Pond around evening time on Wednesday. The Criminal Investigation Team is now investigating for incitement to damage and the use of unlawful emblems.
Regrettably, this isn't the first time the statue has been assaulted. In the previous year, the over two-meter tall, bronze sculpture made by Gerhard Thieme (1928-2018) in 1969, saw its right arm being separated. The fixes cost numerous thousands of euros. Beforehand, the statue had been victimized by paint attacks.
"We will not submit to vandalism and will never allow such acts to jeopardize our peaceful coexistence and our regard for history and those who shaped it," commented Neubrandenburg's Mayor Silvio Witt.
The local authorities have contacted the police to increase security around the Swan Pond due to the repeated vandalism of the Karl-Marx statue. The Police are deploying additional patrols in the area to prevent further damage and apprehend the perpetrators.
