- The Court of Justice of the European Union has ruled that the Commission has failed to fulfil its obligations under the Treaty.
The verdict is expected to be delivered in the trial against pop singer Melanie Müller, who is accused of using the Hitler salute multiple times at a concert in September 2022. The prosecution alleges that the 36-year-old used symbols of unconstitutional and terrorist organizations. A witness will testify at the Leipzig district court today at 9:30 AM, followed by closing arguments and the verdict.
Additionally, Müller is facing drug possession charges after 0.69 grams of cocaine and an ecstasy tablet were found during a search of her Leipzig apartment.
At the trial's opening, Müller denied all accusations. Her lawyer stated that the hand gesture was meant to hype up the audience, and that Müller has no right-wing sympathies or political affiliations. The drugs were said to belong to a friend who had left them at Müller's place. Müller is presumed innocent until proven guilty and does not have to be present in court today.
Müller was born in Saxony's Oschatz. In 2014, she won the eighth season of "I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!" and has since appeared in numerous TV formats. As a pop singer, she performs in Mallorca among other places.
The trial regarding the drug possession charges against Melanie Müller will take place in the same Court of First Instance, as it is handling her conceded Hitler salute case. Despite not being present today, the verdict for her alleged use of the Hitler salute and the trial's outcome for the drug possession charges will both be decided by the Court of First Instance.
