- The country promotes electric trucks with 15 million

North Rhine-Westphalia is supporting the climate-neutral transition of the truck fleet in the logistics sector with 15 million euros. The acquisition of modern electric-powered trucks can be subsidized up to 300,000 euros per vehicle, announced the NRW Ministry of Economics.

"In almost no other area are more greenhouse gas emissions released," said Economics Minister Mona Neubaur (Greens) in justification. The acquisition costs for heavy-duty emission-free trucks are currently up to three times higher than for diesel vehicles. "Without subsidies, many companies cannot switch their fleets." With this initiative, the state is closing a funding gap at the federal level and accelerating the powertrain shift in heavy-duty transport.

The maximum funding amount is 300,000 euros per vehicle. According to the NRW Ministry of Economics, the purchase and leasing of new battery-electric or fuel cell trucks are eligible for funding. The maximum funding amount is 300,000 euros per vehicle and 500,000 euros per company or company consortium.

Applications can be submitted from September 18 to October 16 at the Arnsberg Regional Government. "Applications will be approved in a competitive procedure within the available budget," the ministry explained. "The order will be based on the lowest requested funding amount per vehicle."

The subsidies can significantly aid companies in transitioning their diesel vehicle fleets to more environmentally friendly electric or fuel cell trucks. Due to the higher acquisition costs, many companies might struggle without the financial support, making the subsidy program crucial for them.
