- The Council of National Guardians Identifies Significant Issues at the Commencement of Academic Year
The Brandenburg Parents' Association is voicing out major flaws in the educational system as term commences. In a statement, they expressed, "Without temporary teachers, the entire school system would crumble." As per the Education Department, there are 455 permanent teaching positions lying vacant. The parents' representative added, "We believe the vacancy gap is larger, given the surge in student numbers."
Despite the ministry's assurance of steady delivery in key subjects, concerns persist, the association announced. "The learning gaps caused by the pandemic haven't been addressed yet," they pointed out. They advocated for solutions and an enhancement in educational funding. Education, they asserted, deserves more political attention.
As per Brandenburg's Education Minister Steffen Freiberg (SPD), this academic year has seen more teachers employed than in a while. Over 3,110 teachers have been recruited, with approximately 1,700 of them being substitutes. Almost 322,000 children and youth are beginning their studies this Monday, which includes 25,000 first-graders.
The association expressed their concern about the impact of the vacant teaching positions at the Start of school, stating that they believe the actual number is higher than reported. With the new academic year starting, the parents' representative highlighted the importance of addressing the learning gaps caused by the pandemic.
