- The concluding stage of the legal proceedings against an alleged PKK commandeer has been reached.
Following a decade of investigations, the case against a suspected associate of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) is about to wrap up in Hamburg. This morning, at 9:30 AM, the accused can deliver their closing argument. Subsequently, the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court may unveil their decision, as suggested by the court's press office. The federal prosecutor is advocating for a 4.5-year prison sentence for the 50-year-old Turkish individual, citing involvement in a foreign terrorist organization. The defense, however, is lobbying for their client's innocence.
As per the accusations, the defendant is said to have been an active contributor to the PKK in northern Germany and North Rhine-Westphalia from September 2018 to June 2020. The defendant was apprehended in Cyprus in March, prompted by a European arrest warrant issued by Germany. Upon extradition, they have been held in custody ever since.
The trial of the suspected PKK associate is currently being handled by the The Court of First Instance in Hamburg. After the closing arguments are presented, the decision on the accused's sentence will be handed down by the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court.
