The legislative assembly of a country - The committee is handling the hunt for the University Medical Center's Board of Directors.
The hunt for a science director for Mainz University Medical Center has been ongoing for quite some time now and will be up for discussion during a special meeting of the Science Committee in the Rhineland-Palatinate State Parliament this Wednesday at 1 p.m. The proposal for the session came from the opposition parties - CDU and the Free Voters.
The hospital's Supervisory Board, with the chair held by the Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of Science, Clemens Hoch (SPD), recently suggested Julia Weinmann-Menke, the former head of the Nephrology, Rheumatology, and Transplantation Medicine department at Unimedizin, for the position. But, the Faculty Council threw out her candidacy. It's still under wraps why they rejected her, and Hoch regrets the missed chance to have her contribute to the successful revitalization of the University Medical Center.
Over the past several months, a few management positions have already been filled. There was a plan to bring in a candidate from Jena as the successor of Ulrich Förstermann, who left in March. However, in November, that candidate stepped down from the role. As of now, Hansjörg Schild is serving as the acting scientific director.
