"If one were to implement what is quickly demanded, then we would essentially be managing the dismantling of open Europe," said the SPD politician. "For then one would essentially have to say we have stationary border controls along all of Germany's external borders." He did not believe "that this is actually intended or meant," emphasized the Palatine. "In Europe, which especially thrives on economic exchange with our neighbors, we cannot really want that."
