- The Commission shall adopt implementing acts laying down the rules for the application of this Regulation.
Rhineland-Palatinate's Minister-President Alexander Schweitzer endorses temporary border controls, for example to curb illegal migration. "Temporary border controls, they have their justifications, I would always support that," the SPD politician told the German Press Agency in Mainz. However, he found the demands of some CDU and FDP politicians to continue border controls after the football European Championship to be "too undifferentiated".
"If one were to implement what is quickly demanded, then we would essentially be managing the dismantling of open Europe," said the SPD politician. "For then one would essentially have to say we have stationary border controls along all of Germany's external borders." He did not believe "that this is actually intended or meant," emphasized the Palatine. "In Europe, which especially thrives on economic exchange with our neighbors, we cannot really want that."
The SPD, represented by Minister-President Alexander Schweitzer, opposes the prolongation of temporary border controls proposed by some CDU and FDP politicians, arguing that it would lead to the dismantling of open Europe. The SPD strongly argues against stationary border controls along all of Germany's external borders, as it is not aligned with Europe's desire for economic exchange with neighboring countries.
