The explosion of ticket vending machines in Schleswig-Holstein has led to millions in damages over the past years. According to a response from the state government to an inquiry by the SPD faction, 86 machines have been destroyed between 2019 and 2024, with a total damage of over 1.6 million euros, including stolen money.
"The explosion of ticket vending machines is a widespread problem in Schleswig-Holstein," said Niclas Dürbrook, the interior policy spokesman for the SPD faction. While the danger to bystanders is lower than in bank machine explosions, the property damage is immense, while the loot is relatively low.
However, Dürbrook is hopeful that the number of ticket vending machine explosions will decrease, which could be due to offers like the 49-euro ticket, which is almost exclusively booked digitally. The SPD politician emphasized that the transport companies and the state government are challenged to make explosions as unattractive as possible.
Banks at fault for bank machine explosions
According to the response from the state government, the total damage from bank machine explosions between 2019 and 2024 was around 1.7 million euros, with an average clearance rate of 41.17%.
According to the state government, most of the crimes in Schleswig-Holstein are likely committed by perpetrators from the Netherlands. In individual cases, less professional imitators living locally are also responsible.
"There are still too many poorly secured bank machines in Germany," explained SPD politician Niclas Dürbrook. In some neighboring countries, for example, ink cartridges are widely used in machines. Nebulization systems or automatic note adhesion also come into play less frequently. Here, Dürbrook sees the banks as responsible for upgrading. Previously, the "Kieler Nachrichten" had reported.
The SPD faction has expressed concern about the damages caused by the explosion of ticket vending machines, with the SPD faction in Schleswig-Holstein being particularly affected, as stated in their inquiry. The SPD believes that both transport companies and the state government have a role to play in making explosions of ticket vending machines less attractive.
