- The Commission has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionising radiation.
The State Criminal Office (LKA) of Saxony is investigating a case of arson against two cars belonging to AfD state parliamentarian Holger Hentschel. According to the AfD faction, one vehicle was completely destroyed and the other was damaged. The LKA is investigating "in all directions" and hopes to find witnesses to the crime. The arson attack took place on the night of Wednesday to Thursday.
The AfD suspects left-wing extremists as perpetrators. The attack is said to be related in time to the protests against the refugee home in Leipzig-Thekla, the faction emphasized. Hentschel is campaigning to prevent another refugee home from being built in Thekla, instead of a senior citizens' home as originally planned. There had already been two arson attacks on Hentschel's vehicles in 2016.
Faction and party leader Jörg Urban condemned the act. "This arson attack is, of course, not the first and also not the second against representatives of the AfD. It is another indication of who is really endangering democracy." The political debate must be conducted with arguments. "Violence is never acceptable. This must be consensus across party lines. The AfD stands firmly for peaceful discourse."
In Bremen, unknown persons also set fire to the van of a former AfD member last night. The state protection department is investigating and checking for a politically motivated background, as the police announced. No one was injured.
The AfD faction in Bremen is expressing concern over the arson attack on a former party member's van, similar to the incident involving AfD state parliamentarian Holger Hentschel. Jörg Urban, the faction and party leader, reiterated his stance against violence, stressing that peaceful discourse is essential in political debates.
