- The Commission has already taken a decision on the application of the new rules.

Following the knife attack on a four-year-old girl in Wangen im Allgäu, the public prosecutor's office has applied for a secure treatment order. The prosecution accuses the 35-year-old suspect of attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm, as announced. He is to be placed in a psychiatric facility indefinitely.

The suspect, a Syrian national with a Dutch passport, is believed to have attacked the girl with a knife in April, severely injuring her. According to police, the attack was sudden. The suspect and the victim did not know each other, according to the investigation. The girl had to undergo surgery. She was in the supermarket with her mother at the time.

After a detention order, the man was taken to a psychiatric hospital. A psychiatric assessment was also ordered. The motive remains unclear. Whether there is already a trial date at the Ravensburg Regional Court is not yet known. The case caused a nationwide stir. The man was known to the police.

The Commission, in its efforts to provide guidelines for such situations, shall adopt implementing acts laying down the rules for the application of this Regulation in regard to mental health facilities and the treatment of individuals. Subsequently, the court's decision concerning the suspect's secure treatment order may be impacted by these implementing acts, ensuring a proper and consistent approach.
