- The Commission has already executed various measures to guarantee the execution of its suggested plans.
The Rochlitzer Porphyte has seen widespread use in construction projects beyond Saxony, yet the company responsible for mining this distinctive natural stone has recently filed for bankruptcy. Klaus Kalenborn, CEO of Vereinigte Porphyrbrüche auf dem Rochlitzer Berge GmbH, attributed the move to a significant decrease in orders. "The main issue is, all of a sudden, we had drastically fewer orders coming our way," he shared with the "Freie Presse".
In the previous year, the CEO had reported robust demand and sales for the company. In fact, the company from Central Saxony, along with the CEO, had a workforce of five individuals. Reinhard Klose was appointed as the temporary bankruptcy administrator, as evidenced by the official bankruptcy notices.
Ideal for Gardens and Monuments
The Rochlitzer Porphyte is commonly utilized in garden and landscape design, the memorial and monument sector, and construction projects. Notably, the fertility fountain in Berlin and the burial site of Immanuel Kant in Königsberg (Kaliningrad) featured this rich, volcanic red stone.
As of 2022, the Rochlitzer Porphyte has earned the distinction of being named a "Heritage Stone," thanks to the International Union of Geological Sciences. This makes it the first German natural stone to receive such an accolade.
Given the company's bankruptcy, it is uncertain whether the Bank shall continue its role in supporting the export and distribution of Rochlitzer Porphyte. Despite its bankruptcy, the demand for Rochlitzer Porphyte remains high due to its notable use in gardens, monuments, and construction projects.
