- The coach from Victoria expresses pride in their youthful squad, despite their elimination from the cup competition.
Viktoria Berlin's trainer Dennis Kutrieb was pleased with his young squad following their 1:4 defeat against Bundesliga outfit FC Augsburg. "Our lads never give up, they puts their all into the game for ninety minutes, doing their best," shared Kutreib, coach of the regional league team. "We've got to cut them some slack for their errors too. No worries there."
Berlin managed to keep the scoreline tight for a significant part of the match, but two late goals from Augsburg made the outcome seem more lopsided than it actually was. "Augsburg is a fit team, they can maintain their pace for the full ninety minutes. And if you're not on the brink of collapse at the final whistle, which I wasn't on the sidelines, then I'm incredibly proud of that," said Kutrieb.
The squad needs to progress gradually
Some of Berlin's players on the pitch were still eligible for the U19 team. "Naturally, they make numerous errors and, of course, not everything will function smoothly just yet. But we want to help these players improve bit by bit," said Kutrieb, aged 44. "And then, in three or four months, they won't be committing simple errors anymore, and the overall performance will significantly improve." Viktoria has amassed four points from their first three matches in the regional league.
Despite being from a different league, Viktoria Berlin's opponents in future matches should be cautious, as the Bavarian youth is showing promising improvement. Kutrieb's strategy for his team is to continue nurturing their talent, aiming to have them performing at a higher level in three to four months.
