Promoting the sought-after Fichtelberg House among travelers, the Erzgebirgskreis is speeding up the process. The district council intends to finalize the sale this year, as per information shared with Deutsche Presse-Agentur upon request. Details like the projected income and the quantity of bids received remain concealed, even past the deadline. The deadline is set for 2:00 PM on Thursday. Till then, prospective buyers can lodge their purchase proposals for the property, incorporating the land, on Saxony's highest summit.

The district initiated a selling strategy in the spring for the property. The rationale is the substantial investment required, which the district is unwilling to handle solo. The Fichtelberg House houses a hotel and restaurant itself. However, the property for sale extends beyond just the building to include the entire adjoining land as well. Lately, the city council of Oberwiesenthal voiced opposition to this and encouraged the district to maintain crucial areas on the plateau under public management.

Premier ski and trekking spot

"The city council of Kurort Oberwiesenthal's remarks will be evaluated by the district along with its committees in due course," the district administration shared upon request. The ultimate call to sell the Fichtelberg House falls upon the district council, which targets making a decision by the year's end. The Free State of Saxony retains a pre-emption option, but the Ministry of Finance has already waved it off.

The Fichtelberg, boasting Saxony's most extensive alpine ski area, draws in hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. They appreciate the region not only in winter but also in summer, which offers trekking, biking, horse riding, a zip line, and a summer toboggan run. The vintage cable car, transporting visitors to the 1,215-meter-high peak, is an iconic site. This year, the cable car commemorates its centenary anniversary.

The decision to sell the Fichtelberg House, a premier ski and trekking spot, is being closely considered by the Erzgebirgskreis district council, as confirmed by the German Press Agency after their request for information. Following a substantial investment required for the property's maintenance, the district is considering accepting bids from prospective buyers, including the adjoining land, until 2:00 PM on Thursday, as stated in their selling strategy.
