New in cinema - The cinema releases of the week

With "Deadpool & Wolverine," only one Marvel blockbuster has come to the cinema this year. In the third part of the "Deadpool" series, Ryan Reynolds is once again in the lead role - but this time he has prominent support. Hugh Jackman returns to the screen as Wolverine. As a popular character from the "X-Men" films, Wolverine helps Deadpool out of a sticky situation this time around.

"Two to One": The Value of Money in the Last DDR Summer

It sounds like a fairy tale. A group of friends discovers a million-dollar stash in a mine, smuggles it out, and distributes it among their neighbors. But the summer comedy "Two to One" with stars Sandra Hüller, Max Riemelt and Ronald Zehrfeld is based on a true story. In Halberstadt (Saxony-Anhalt), with the introduction of the D-Mark in the GDR in 1990, billions of worthless East German banknotes were buried underground to rot. When director Natja Brunckhorst heard about this by chance, it was immediately intriguing to her. In "Two to One," childhood friends Maren (Hüller), Robert (Riemelt), and Volker (Zehrfeld) stumble upon the buried millions quite by accident in the summer of 1990 and can hardly believe their luck. With bags full of worthless Ostmarks, they decide to invest in their household commune.

The Horror of Auschwitz in the Film "The Investigation"

When Soviet troops liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp on January 27, 1945, they were met with a scene of horror: Thousands of emaciated men, women, and children were waiting there, many of whom were only skin and bones. Add to that countless corpses. More than a million people died there from 1940 to 1945 in the extermination factory, which became synonymous with the crimes of the Nazis due to its gas chambers. The film "The Investigation" based on the same-named theater play by Peter Weiss provides insights into the legal processing of the events from 1963 in the Auschwitz trials. The four-hour film with prominent actors like Rainer Bock, Clemens Schick, Tom Wlaschiha, Christiane Paul, and Sabine Timoteo presents the horrors of the Holocaust, but is also highly topical as it shows how fragile democracy is.
