A representative of the forbidden Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has been imposed a sentence of four years and three months in detention. The Hanseatic Higher Regional Court in Hamburg declared him guilty of affiliation with a foreign terrorist group. The court concluded that the 50-year-old male of Turkish origin aided the PKK in Germany for over a year and a half, attaining the top position within the organization in Germany.
The suspect was apprehended in Cyprus in March 2023 as per a European arrest warrant issued by Germany and was subsequently relocated to Germany. The trial commenced in November 2022. The federal prosecutor requested a sentence of four and a half years, whereas the defense argued for acquittal. The ruling is yet to be confirmed.
