To mark their 125th anniversary, Opel will be hosting a celebratory event in Rüsselsheim. Throughout the day of open doors, visitors will be given the opportunity to see how Opel is adapting to the electric vehicle revolution.
Beginning in 1899, Opel started out in the car manufacturing business by creating the "Patentmotorwagen System Lutzmann" with the resources of a sewing machine and bicycle manufacturer. Before being absorbed into the US conglomerate General Motors, Opel had previously acquired the Anhaltinische Motorwagenfabrik of automotive pioneer Friedrich Lutzmann in Dessau and translocated it to Rüsselsheim.
In 2017, Opel became a subsidiary of the French multinational PSA Group and has since been enjoying profitable years after drastic job cuts and streamlining its facilities. The German brand has additional factories in Eisenach and Kaiserslautern.
