Central Jewish Council Slams TU Berlin President's Stay in Office Amid Gaza War Controversy

In response to TU Berlin President Geraldine Rauch's decision to continue her position despite harsh criticism over liking controversial posts regarding the Gaza conflict, the Central Jewish Council expressed their disapproval. A representative from the Council in Berlin stated on Friday that Rauch had the chance to minimize more damage to TU Berlin but failed to do so.

The Council also added that Professor Rauch's liking of anti-Semitic posts and subsequent actions demonstrated a lack of awareness and empathy for the gravity of the situation. They stated, "She should have acknowledged her mistake. Instead, she's trying to legalize her misconduct and stall for time, while Jewish students and staff are terrified to attend universities."

Criticism towards Rauch intensified when it was discovered she had displayed her approval of at least one anti-Semitic post on the platform X by "liking" it. The President declared on Thursday that she wouldn't be stepping down, even when a slim majority from TU's Academic Senate called for her resignation. "I'm not leaving," Rauch, aged 41, told the media.

The final decision is yet to be made. The Management Board of the TU conducts a remarkable meeting on Monday to discuss the issue. Rauch requested her own disciplinary process within the TU to clarify the allegations objectively.
