Following a suspected arson attack on a CDU election campaign vehicle in Leipzig the night prior to the Saxon state election, law enforcement authorities are calling for potential witnesses. With an alleged claim of responsibility, there's a strong suspicion that this act is politically motivated, as stated by the authorities. The Saxon State Criminal Police Office's Police Counter-Terrorism and Extremism Centre (PTAZ) is now managing the investigation.

The incident took place around 2:55 AM on Saturday, in the Leutzsch district. The vehicle was prominently displaying campaign materials for a CDU political figure. Despite the efforts of the fire department, the vehicle was reduced to ashes before the break of day. The estimated damages amount to 30,000 euros, fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Andreas Nowak, chairman of the Leipzig CDU, voiced his shock regarding the incident in a statement. "This despicable act of political-criminal intimidation is an attack against us all," he said, condemning the use of political violence, even against property. "This incident poses a threat to our society."

The local police are urging anyone who might have seen or heard anything unusual in the Leutzsch district around 2:55 AM on Saturday to come forward. The Police Counter-Terrorism and Extremism Centre (PTAZ) of the Saxon State Criminal Police Office is handling the investigation into the arson attack on the CDU election campaign vehicle, which is believed to be a politically motivated crime.
