- The CDU needs to devise a solution.
After the standstill caused by the recent state election, SPD state leader and leading candidate Georg Maier places the responsibility for establishing a stable government on the CDU. He stated this in Berlin the day post-election, commenting, "The CDU has the ball now and needs to come up with something." As the most powerful democratic party, they hold the authority to govern and should propose feasible solutions. "We'll pay heed to it and first need to deliberate in our internal bodies," Maier added. In his perspective, following a six percent election result, the SPD is not the leading party.
The election result in Thuringia fails to yield a majority for the proposed state government, featuring CDU, SPD, and the new Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht. Combined, they command 44 seats in the state parliament, with a total of 88 seats. The minimum requirement for a majority is 45 seats.
The AfD, regarded as a securely far-right extremist group by the Thuringia state constitutional protection office, emerged as the strongest party. However, all other parties have ruled out collaborating with them.
The following election result in Thuringia does not provide a majority for the proposed state government, necessitating the involvement of all major parties. Following the standstill, Maier acknowledges that the CDU holds the responsibility to propose feasible solutions for a stable government.
