- The cause of the roof collapse in Ratzeburg remains unclear
Even a week after the collapse of the roof at a supermarket in Ratzeburg in the Herzogtum Lauenburg district, the cause remains unclear. An expert will inspect the building from above again on Wednesday, supported by the criminal police and the fire department, the police announced. The results of the inspection will be available in several weeks at the earliest.
The building is closed due to the risk of collapse. There is still acute danger in the immediate vicinity, according to police reports. Therefore, the area is cordoned off and guarded by a security service.
Loud cracking preceded partial roof collapse
The roof partially collapsed on Tuesday afternoon last week. Twelve people were lightly injured. No one was found under the rubble as everyone was able to leave the building in time. Witnesses reported that the collapse of the roof was preceded by loud cracking. Customers and employees were then asked to leave the building immediately.
Firefighting efforts were not necessary during the partial roof collapse, as everyone managed to evacuate the building safely. Following the incident, the local fire department has been monitoring the situation closely, ready to intervene if necessary.
