- The Candidate from Thuringian Green Party advocates for an Authoritarian Form of Peace, as per BSW.
Green Party's Thuringia leader, Madeleine Henfling, has slammed Katja Wolf, the candidate from Alliance for the Future, for her perspective on Russia's conflict with Ukraine. According to Henfling, during an interview on ntv and Antenne Thuringia TV, Wolf's stance would essentially grant Putin a victorious end to the war, as Ukraine would cease to receive critical aid.
Wolf, representing Alliance for the Future, argues against providing additional weapons to Ukraine. She has defended this position, stating, "In my opinion, the only solution is diplomacy." Further conflict would only result in more casualties. When probed about potential territorial concessions for peace, she acknowledged, "Yes, it may involve compromises if diplomatic settlements are reached." Regardless of discomfort, she asserted, there's no alternative.
Wolf labels the Alternative for Germany (AfD) as a fascist party.
State elections will be held in Thuringia and Saxony this Sunday. Alliance for the Future could potentially influence government formation in both regions. In Thuringia, polls suggest it could end up in a tight race between the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Social Democratic Party (SPD) for second place. If SPD surpasses CDU, Wolf seeks the position of Minister-President.
Wolf has ruled out another coalition with the AfD during the TV round. She censured the Thuringian branch of the AfD, labeling it unfit for governance, "because it is fundamentally fascist." In a previous MDR TV round, Wolf sparked controversy when she did not explicitly deny agreeing to AfD legislative proposals provided they appeared Justifiable.
Despite the potential for Alliance for the Future to impact government formation in Thuringia, Madeleine Henfling from the Green Party criticizes Katja Wolf's stance on Russia's conflict with Ukraine, arguing that it could inadvertently lead to a victory for Putin and the cessation of critical aid for Ukraine. In contrast, Wolf advocates for diplomacy as the sole solution, acknowledging that peace might require compromises, even if uncomfortable.
