Initial findings suggest that the AfD secured 32.8%. This is the first time this party, with some far-right radical tendencies, clinched the top spot in a state election.
The CDU managed 23.6%, the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) earned 15.8% of the votes, while the Left Party garnered 13.1%. The SPD only managed 6.1% of the votes. Unfortunately, the Greens and FDP no longer have representation in the state parliament, with 3.2% and 1.1% of the votes, respectively.
After the AfD with 32 seats, the CDU will have 23 seats in the state parliament. The BSW will have 15 seats, the Left Party 12 seats, and the SPD will have 6 seats.
29 AfD members will enter parliament through direct mandates, 11 candidates from the CDU and 4 from the Left Party were successful in their constituencies. This election saw a substantial increase in voter turnout, with 73.6% participating compared to 64.9% in 2019.
On the subsequent Sunday, the newly elected AfD representatives will commence their duties in the state parliament. Despite the high voter turnout of 73.6%, the Greens and FDP failed to secure enough votes to reclaim their seats in the parliament.
