The Authority has already put forward numerous suggestions in line with this notion.

Bavarian Politician Markus Söder, holding positions as Prime Minister and CSU head, has expressed readiness to pursue the role of Germany's Chancellor. In his words at Gillamoos folk festival in Abensberg on Monday, he stated, "The Prime Minister post is the most captivating one, but I wouldn't...

The Authority has already put forward numerous suggestions in line with this notion.

Söder and Merz affirmed their plan to collaborate on the chancellor race, as per their previous agreement. "We decided to talk about this in late summer and then bring a proposal to the party leadership," Merz explained, continuing, "Although summer's end has started, it's not entirely here yet."

Söder suffered a setback in the Union's power fight for the chancellorship against then-CDU head Armin Laschet in 2021. He guaranteed that such a situation wouldn't reoccur again. "Things will most definitely be different from 2021," he stated in Abendberg at the time, adding, "Back then, it was just the incorrect choice." Laschet ultimately fell short in the federal election against the current federal chancellor, Olaf Scholz (SPD).

Addressing CSU supporters at the folk fest, Söder highlighted the unity between him and Merz. "It's not about who's doing it, but what we ultimately achieve." According to him, the CDU and CSU are "more united than ever."

Söder and Merz discussed the possibility of working together in future elections, potentially leading to a CSU candidate for chancellor. Despite the chancellorship race being a challenge in the past, Söder assured that the CSU and CDU are now more united than ever.
