"The Architect" by Till Raether is "Book of the Year"
Author Till Raether has been awarded the Hamburg Literature Prize 2023 for his novel "The Architect" - in the "Book of the Year" category. The "Non-Fiction Book of the Year" was written by author and artist Moshtari Hilal with her book "Ugliness", as announced by the Hamburg Department of Culture on Tuesday.
In total, the authority has honored nine authors and three translators with the Hamburg Literature Prize 2023. The literary prizes are endowed with 8,000 euros each, the prizes for literary translations with 4,000 euros each. They will be awarded on December 4 at the Literaturhaus Hamburg.
The prize in the novel category goes to Nefeli Kavouras for "Wann stirbt Georg" and Anselm Neft for "Ein Nachruf auf Fukurō Hayashi". The prize for the story of the year goes to Saša Stanišić for "Traumnovelle" and Katharina Unteutsch for "Woran wir glauben". Ulrike Syha received the award in the Poetry, Drama, Experimental category for "Der analoge Mensch", Tina Blase for "Geisterhelfer - Aufruhr auf dem Friedhof" (children's and young adult book) and Ika Sperling for "Der Große Reset" (comic).
The prizes in the Literary Translations category go to Ingo Herzke for "Die Netanjahus"/"The Netanyahus" by Joshua Cohen from American English, Brigitte Jakobeit for "Die trotzige Schönheit der Welt"/"The Story of the Forest" by Linda Grant from British English and Henrike Schmidt for "Kleine Welt, große Welt"/"Malkijat svjat, golemijat svjat" (poems) by Nadya Radulova from Bulgarian.
Till Raether's win with "The Architect" in the "Book of the Year" category underscores the recognition that talented authors like him receive in the field of Literature through Awards.
