Electric transportation - The amount of electric vehicle charging stations in the nation grows steadily.
The number of public electric charging points in Saxony has increased significantly, as revealed by the Federal Ministry of Transport. By the end of the first quarter of 2024, there will be a total of 4,386 charging points in the region, including 3,526 standard ones and 860 fast charging ones. Fast forward to 2021, there were only 2,379 charging points across the state, with 381 of them being fast charging. Information gathered from the Federal Network Agency was used by the ministry.
As revealed by the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), the charging network in Saxony is more extensively deployed in almost all areas in comparison to the national average. While the state boasts 13.1 electric cars for each charging point, the overall Federal Republic requires 19.6 cars to access the charging infrastructure.
Hildegard Müller, the boss of VDA, remarked that the fast growth of e-mobility requires collaboration from all parties. Everyone needs to put in their fair share of effort. But building up the public charging infrastructure throughout the entire European Union is a huge task that needs to be tackled.
Torsten Herbst, an FDP Bundestag member, praised Saxony's speedy progress in charging infrastructure. The development of the charging system for electric vehicles and hybrids has gained considerable momentum in recent times under the current federal government. However, Herbst highlighted the fact that no customer should be compelled to opt for a specific power source. "A great charging network is essential for the use of electric and hybrid vehicles," stated Herbst, and Saxony's nearly doubling of electric charging points since 2021 is a sign that the Federal Ministry of Transport's expansion strategy is succeeding.
