Inundation - The Agriculture Minister urges the federal government for additional support during severe weather conditions.
The German state of Baden-Württemberg initiated a pilot program in 2020, backed by state funds, to help farmers mitigate financial losses due to adverse weather conditions like frost, storms, and heavy rain in their fruit and wine growing sectors, said Minister Hauk. The goal is to start co-funding this initiative with European Union (EU) funds from 2025 onwards. However, the federal government has not yet agreed to contribute financially. According to Hauk, this would be crucial, especially to extend weather-related yield risk insurance coverage to more crops and other sectors. Recent storms have primarily impacted agricultural and forestry businesses in the east of the state, he disclosed.
