- The AfD proposes a special assembly in the Landtag following the Solingen incident.
After the tragic stabbing incident in Solingen, the AfD group in Brandenburg's state legislature is demanding an extraordinary meeting of the legislature to deliberate on the aftermath of the event. "We aim to discuss the implications of the terror attack in Solingen," said the faction leader and the leading candidate for the upcoming state election, Hans-Christoph Berndt. "We feel this is a matter that needs our attention in Brandenburg as well."
Berndt acknowledges the possibility of such incidents recurring in Brandenburg. "Anyplace in Germany could be at risk," he added.
On a Friday evening, three lives were lost and eight others were injured, four critically, during a city celebration in Solingen. A 26-year-old suspect from Syria has been detained, among other charges, for alleged affiliation with the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) and murder.
Berndt expressed concern about the potential for similar knife attacks to occur in Brandenburg, following the tragic knife attack in Solingen. In light of the recent terror attack in Solingen, the AfD group urged for an extraordinary meeting to discuss its implications in Brandenburg.
