Upcoming local voting process - The AfD is leading in every region ahead of the CDU.
The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) placed second in all areas barring Leipzig. They achieved their best score in the Erzgebirgskreis with a 29.3% share. The distinction there was incredibly narrow; the CDU was just 0.1% short of the Alternative for Germany (AfD). The widest gap was observed in the Görlitz region, which had a 12.5% difference.
The vote-counting process was halted in several areas during the night and continued on Monday. The most protracted counting incident involved the Leipzig district. It wasn't until after nightfall on Monday that a preliminary result was published from the final region in Leipzig.
