A lawsuit has been filed by the Alternative for Germany (AfD) against Rhineland-Palatinate's Minister President, Malu Dreyer (SPD) and the state government, at the Constitutional Court in Koblenz. The case was submitted last week, and a court spokesperson confirmed this on Monday. This all relates to an invitation for a demonstration labeled "Stand Against the Right" which took place on January 18, 2024. The demonstration's details were shared on the state government's website and social media platforms. The AfD is an intervener in both a federal and state-level lawsuit, claiming a breach of neutrality.

The state government was given three months to respond, according to the VGH spokesperson. If action has been taken, it would be brought to the AfD's attention during the inter-state dispute process. They would then have the opportunity to reply. The State Chancellery, in response to a request, said that they "will consider the issue after receiving the application." They also mentioned that "there is no written statement concerning the content yet available in their possession, thus no comment can be given."

On January 18, 2024, at the Mainz main station, Dreyer and other cabinet members took part in a protest against right-wing extremism and racism. As per the state government's press release dated January 17, Dreyer stated, "I invite all democratic groups to participate in the protest, to publicly display their support and to create a common sign against racism and far-right extremism in Germany and Rhineland-Palatinate."

On the same day, the State Chancellery released a statement having Dreyer assert that "the announced expulsion plans are the shocking zenith of the right-wing extremism doctrine, which many of the AfD's leaders disseminate."

Prior to this, the media platform "Correctiv" reported on a gathering of right-wing radicals that took place at a villa in Potsdam on November 25, 2023. Participants in the event included members of the AfD, as well as the CDU and Value Union. As per Sellner's own claims, the event involved conversations about "repatriation." These are usually code for removing a large number of people of foreign origin from the country.
