- The AfD holds the most significant power in Thuringia.
As per the latest poll, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) might be thedominant force in the forthcoming state electoral contest in Thuringia. Conducted by Infratest-Dimap institute on behalf of ARD, the poll places the AfD, headed by Björn Höcke, at a strong 30%. The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) follows closely behind with 23%, while the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) manages 17%. Currently in power, the Left party, led by Minister President Bodo Ramelow, sits at 13%, with the Social Democrat Party (SPD) at a lowly 7%. Unfortunately for the Greens and the Free Democrats (FDP), they fall below the necessary 3% threshold to secure a seat in the state parliament.
The AfD in Thuringia, under the leadership of its chairman Björn Höcke, is classified as reliably right-wing extremist by the region's domestic intelligence agency and is under surveillance accordingly.
The poll, which gathered opinions from 1,551 eligible voters in Thuringia through phone or online interviews, is not a prediction but rather a demonstration of the week's political climate. The "Sunday question" measures present voting intentions, not actual voting behavior. Voters often make their decisions at the very last minute before an election, making the final campaign stage, characterized by targeted outreach to undecided and tactical voters, incredibly crucial.
The Alternative for Germany (AfD) could potentially emerge as the strongest faction in the upcoming Election to the Landtag in Thuringia, based on the latest poll results. Due to its far-right ideologies, the AfD in Thuringia, led by Björn Höcke, continues to be under surveillance by the region's domestic intelligence agency.
