Demolishing a bridge - The A7 and Elbe tunnel in Hamburg are entirely shut down.

Motorists near Hamburg will experience detours and longer travel times over the weekend due to the shutdown of the A7 and the Elbtunnel for the removal of a bridge. The A7's Hannover-bound lane between Stellingen and Heimfeld, as well as the Flensburg-bound lane between Heimfeld and Volkspark, were closed starting Friday night and are estimated to reopen Monday morning at 5:00 am, as per the Autobahn GmbH Nord.

The alternative route for drivers is the regional detour, which goes from the Maschener Kreuz south of Hamburg to the Neumünster Süd exit via the A1, A21, and B205. The police reported additional delays Saturday morning, particularly for long-distance travelers, following an accident on the A1 near Stillhorn. In the city, the Elb bridges are accessible to drivers.

The demolition of the cycle and pedestrian bridge at Baurstraße in Bahrenfeld will take place during this 55-hour period, as part of the motorway's expansion to eight lanes. A temporary bridge is anticipated to be operational until early November. In the meantime, cyclists and pedestrians are advised to utilize the Osdorfer Weg.

Southern of the Elbtunnel, the traffic management within the construction site is set to change, as an Autobahn GmbH spokesperson shared. Within the tunnel itself, the computer system will be maintained during the shutdown, while technical and fire drills also take place.
