- The 2028 Edition of the Garden Exhibition will make its way to Donauwörth
The 2028 Bavarian State Garden Exhibition is scheduled to occur in Donauwoerth. "The alluring concept and thoughts of the city have swayed us," mentioned Environment Minister Thorsten Glauber (Free Voters). "Hosting a State Garden Exhibition in Donauwoerth presents a rare chance to augment green leisure spaces, establish architectural landmarks, and improve surfaces. The city's further development plan concept also demonstrates how State Garden Exhibitions can inject fresh energy into local developments."
Mayor: "Hit the Jackpot"
"This news is like hitting the jackpot for us Donauwoerthers," stated Donauwoerth's independent Mayor Jürgen Sorré. "In the forthcoming years, we will be able to bring numerous aspirations for our city to life that would have been unlikely without a State Garden Exhibition."
Donauwoerth submitted its application for the State Garden Exhibition at short notice following Penzberg's withdrawal as host. The Penzberg city council had casted a vote against hosting the event due to the city's present financial struggles.
Emphasis on "City by the River"
In the Swabian city of Donauwoerth, the focus for the State Garden Exhibition will be on the themes "City by the River", "Linking Natural Spaces", and "Boosting the Bicycle and Pedestrian Path Network". Among other things, open spaces around the old town promenade will be revamped for this reason. Furthermore, the promenade and the Parkstadt will be linked across the federal road B2.
The Bavarian Ministry of the Environment has financed garden exhibitions for 44 years and has contributed around 80 million euros in funding during this period. Approximately 550 hectares have been revamped since then, which equals the area of more than 760 football fields. According to ministry statistics, over 25 million people have attended the State Garden Exhibitions in Bavaria to date.
"The focus of the State Garden Exhibition in Donauwoerth aligns perfectly with our aim to enhance the 'City by the River,' providing an opportunity to transform the urban landscape and link natural spaces."
"The revitalization of open spaces around the old town promenade and the linking of the promenade and Parkstadt are significant contributions to the 'City by the River' theme, as envisioned by The Nature within the State Garden Exhibition."
