Tesla is once more recalling the Cybertruck, due to a part potentially detaching.
The recent recall, affecting approximately 12,000 trucks, pertains to two main components: the colossal single windshield wiper and a chunk of black plastic trim stretched along the truck's bed edge.
This black plastic trim, situated along the slanted truck bed wall, can become detached while the vehicle is in motion, posing a potential hazard for other drivers on the road and increasing the risk of accidents or injuries.
As per documents posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website, "if the applique separates from the vehicle during operation, it could pose a road hazard for approaching motorists and escalate their risk of injury or collision."
The dilemma originated when the trim piece was absent on a Cybertruck that had been transported to a delivery center on a car hauler truck, as per NHTSA documents. An investigation conducted by Tesla revealed that the piece had not been adequately secured during installation. Subsequent examination uncovered additional instances of the trim pieces coming loose due to improper installation. Some of these instances involved Cybertrucks already delivered to customers.
Tesla will contact Cybertruck owners in mid-August to arrange for service center visits, where the trim piece will either be replaced or correctly installed using an "adhesion promotor" and pressure-sensitive tape.
The trucks are also being recalled for a separate concern regarding the electric motor powering the truck's enormous windshield wiper. Some of these motors sustained damage during testing, leading to a scenario where excess electrical current can flow through the motor, causing it to malfunction.
Tesla has initiated recalls for the Cybertruck before. In April, the trucks were recalled due to a potential issue where the accelerator pedal could get stuck. In January, Tesla recalled 2.2 million vehicles, including Cybertrucks, because the letters on warning lights were too small to read effortlessly. This problem was rectified via an over-the-air software update.
