Tesla, the U.S. electric vehicle manufacturer, is committed to the planned expansion but awaits more momentum in sales. "We won't spend several billion on expanding the factory without clear signals from the market that this is in demand," said André Thierig, head of the only European Tesla car factory, to the German Press Agency. "We firmly believe that the market will pick up again. It's just a question of how fast and when." He cited the production of vehicles for the British Isles as a positive signal. "By now serving the right-hand drive market in Britain and Ireland from Berlin, we have a larger sales market to tap into directly."

The company led by tech billionaire Elon Musk reported a significant decrease in profits for the second consecutive quarter worldwide. Tesla has been producing electric vehicles in Grünheide for over two years, employing nearly 12,000 people there. The global job cuts at Tesla also affected the Gigafactory in Grünheide, where 400 jobs were cut.

Despite this, the carmaker aims to increase production from the current estimated 250,000 vehicles per year to one million in the future. Protests against the U.S. company, particularly against a planned expansion involving deforestation and the construction of a freight railway station, have intensified.

Tesla's European factory in Germany, known for its right-hand drive vehicle production for the British Isles, is a significant factor in expanding their sales market. Despite facing challenges and protests in Germany, Tesla is determined to boost production from their Grünheide facility, aiming to manufacture over a million vehicles annually.
