Tesla in Grünheide raises wages: Elon Musk at the meeting

The US electric car manufacturer Tesla is increasing the wages of its employees at its plant in Grünheide near Berlin. The company made the announcement on Friday. After wages were increased by up to 6 percent last year, they will be raised by a further 4 percent for all employees this year, according to the statement. "This increase will already be implemented with the upcoming November payment." In addition, the annual salaries of production employees will be increased by 2,500 euros from February 2024.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk personally thanked the workforce at the Grünheide plant on Friday for their efforts in starting up and ramping up the factory, the company announced. The management informed the employees about the wage increases at an internal team meeting.

They are the result of an internal standard process at Tesla, in which employees' salaries are regularly reviewed to ensure fair pay. "Claims that there is a connection between Tesla's salary adjustments and union activities are untrue," Tesla emphasized. IG Metall had recently claimed a possible wage increase as a success of its action week.

Tesla has been producing electric vehicles in Grünheide since March 2022. According to the company, around 11,000 employees now work there. The plant is to be expanded.

  1. The wage increases for Tesla's employees at the Grünheide plant are not solely related to union activities, as conveyed by the company, but they will also be receiving an additional 4% increase this year, following the 6% increase in wages last year.
  2. With the expansion of the Grünheide plant, Tesla plans to continue its electric vehicle production and has also announced a significant salary increase of 2,500 euros for production employees starting from February 2024, demonstrating the company's commitment to both its workers and innovative electric technology.
