Automobile under consideration - Tesla halts car manufacturing.

Tesla, the American electric car manufacturer, is temporarily suspending vehicle production at its only European plant in Gruenheide, located near Berlin, as previously announced. A spokesperson confirmed this when asked. This marks the first of five days in June when Tesla has planned to halt both vehicle and drivetrain production. The dates for these pauses are also June 14th, 17th, 27th, and 28th.

The purpose behind these suspensions is for making improvements to the plant, including enhancing efficiency, optimizing availability, and reducing cycle times. The foundry and battery cell production will continue uninterrupted. Tesla employees have been informed of these "short box stops" in June, as reported by Handelsblatt. The plant has experienced several pauses in production already this year.

In late January, Tesla halted car production in Gruenheide due to attacks by the Yemeni Huthi militia on ships in the Red Sea, resulting in a production hiatus that lasted approximately two weeks. In March, another issue arose when the power supply for Tesla was attacked near the factory, causing a seven-day freeze in car production due to a power outage. In May, production was also halted for Whit Monday. Protests by activists over the planned expansion of the facility for a freight yard and logistics areas took place, with some attempting to storm the Tesla site. Police intervened, preventing any disruption to the facility.

Tesla began manufacturing electric cars at the Brandenburg plant in March 2022, at which point roughly 12,000 employees were working there. With the recent market slump affecting sales of electric cars, Tesla announced in April that it would be cutting 400 jobs at the Gruenheide plant. Nevertheless, Tesla still intends to increase production levels at the facility in the future.
