Terzic on Adeyemi: "Pointed out the consequences"

Borussia Dortmund club coach Edin Terzic has refrained from issuing an explicit public reprimand for the withdrawal of international striker Karim Adeyemi for the U21 internationals. "Of course we have spoken to Karim. We all made him aware of the consequences. But I am his club coach, who accepts this decision," said Terzic and took the 21-year-old to task: "The only person who can end this issue is Karim, by performing well." Regarding Bernd Neuendorf's criticism of Adeyemi's absence, the BVB coach said: "It is the DFB president's right to express his opinion."

The four-time senior international had withdrawn from the U21 squad at his own request after national coach Julian Nagelsmann failed to nominate him. DFB boss Neuendorf described this as "a mistake" and a "missed opportunity". BVB managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke had agreed with him.

Neuendorf had said of the possible consequences: "That's for the coaches to decide. It's a sign of how important he takes it. It's hard to force him, it doesn't help the team if you have players you have to drag here." DFB managing director Andreas Rettig had said that Adeyemi knew "that he had not behaved well". But he had to be "taken in his arms".

Terzic mentioned that Borussia Dortmund had discussed the implications with Adeyemi following his decision to withdraw from the U21 squad. Despite Adeyemi's absence in the U21 team, Borussia Dortmund continues to support him and expects him to address the situation by performing well.
