BVB coach - Terzic feels backed: "Nothing has changed"
At Borussia Dortmund, memories of last season's title trauma are coming flooding back. Almost seven months after the 2:2 draw against Mainz 05, with which BVB surprisingly lost the possible championship on the last matchday of the previous season, FSV will return to Signal Iduna Park. However, Dortmund soccer coach Edin Terzic thinks little of the reference to the memorable match on May 27: "It's clear that such questions come up. But that doesn't matter at all. It's a new season with new goals."
The game on Tuesday (8.30pm) is once again highly explosive. After just one win in the last six league games and the team's fall to fifth place, the discussion surrounding Terzic has intensified. Despite the critical situation for him, Terzic feels the support of the club management and the professionals. "I feel the backing both from the people I work with and from the dressing room. Nothing has changed. We've been through a phase like this together twice before and have proven that we can do it," said the coach, referring to two similar starting positions at the end of the year.
The 41-year-old acknowledged that his team had made progress in the games against Leipzig (2:3), Paris (1:1) and Augsburg (1:1): "You could feel that we wanted to turn things around together. The trick now is to stay focused despite the turmoil. Address things clearly without taking it personally."
Although the team is already five points behind the fourth-placed team in the table and therefore in danger of qualifying for the Champions League again, Terzic was confident: "We have to start winning as soon as possible. We will achieve our goals this time too, but we have to go about it with a lot of courage and diligence."
As in Augsburg, Borussia will be without attacking player Karim Adeyemi. The 21-year-old suffered a partial tear of his syndesmosis in the Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain just under a week ago. "We hope that he will be able to train with the team again in January," said Terzic, full of hope that the attacker will recover before the first game after the winter break on January 13 in Darmstadt.
