Teresa Präauer receives the Bremen Literature Prize
The Austrian writer Teresa Präauer has been awarded the 70th Bremen Literature Prize 2024, which is endowed with 25,000 euros. Präauer receives the prize for her novel "Kochen im falschen Jahrhundert", published by Wallstein Verlag, as announced by the Senate Press Office. "Teresa Präauer uniquely combines humor, analysis and existential unrest in her novel," the jury said in its statement.
Präauer was reportedly born in Linz in 1979. She studied German language and literature and fine arts. Several of her works have been published by Verlag Wallstein, including her debut novel "Für den Herrscher aus Übersee". The book "Kochen im falschen Jahrhundert" was on the longlist for the German Book Prize 2023.
Author Katharina Mevissen was awarded the Bremen Literature Prize, which is endowed with 6,000 euros, for her novel "Mutters Stimmbruch". The book was published by Verlag Klaus Wagenbach. The prizes will be awarded on January 22, 2024 in Bremen City Hall.
Teresa Präauer's novel "Kochen im falschen Jahrhundert" was also named a longlist finalist for the prestigious German Book Prize 2023. With the Bremen Literature Prize, Präauer has now added another significant Literature Award to her list of achievements.
