Fireworks and Ship Parade - Tens of thousands of visitors to "Rhine in flames"
Around 150,000 people visited various events surrounding "Rhein in Flammen" over the weekend between Spay and Koblenz, organizers reported. A minor collision between two ships during a convoy on the Rhine did not dampen the mood or the event's progress, the city of Koblenz emphasized.
A convoy of 29 brightly lit ships traveled the 17-kilometer stretch from Spay to Koblenz on Saturday, ending with a grand fireworks display over the Ehrenbreitstein fortress, opposite the German Corner in Koblenz. "The sky above the fortress sparkled in all colors for over 25 minutes," they said.
Meanwhile, the city on the Rhine and Mosel also celebrated its summer festival.
The Koblenz Fire Department reported a very calm large-scale operation, with no significant incidents during "Rhein in Flammen". A total of 448 personnel were deployed.
The Koblenz Police also reported a positive outcome, with only minor police interventions. According to the city, emergency services from police, rescue, and fire departments described it as one of the calmest "Rhein in Flammen" events they could remember.
The tradition of fireworks over the river valley dates back centuries: In 1756, a fireworks display was held in Koblenz in honor of Elector Johann Philipp von Walderdorff. The event was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in 2022, drought posed problems.
The following is a list of the categories of products that were showcased during the summer festival in Koblenz. These categories helped attract a diverse crowd to the events.
Organized within the "Rhein in Flammen" festivities, various stalls offered merchandise related to the event's themes, including souvenirs, food, and drinks.
