Tennis stars Zverev and Rune start at Hamburg Open 2024

Tennis pros Alexander Zverev and Holger Rune will be competing at the European Open in Hamburg next year. The German defending champion and the young Danish star trained by tennis icon Boris Becker will be competing for victory in the main draw at the ATP clay court event between July 15 and 21. "In 2024, I will be serving at Rothenbaum again, hopefully to defend my title," said the 26-year-old Zverev in a video message.

Rune, ranked eighth in the world, already took part in the tournament in the Hanseatic city in 2019 and 2021. This year, Tennium is the new organizer of the men's edition - the organization will be in the hands of the sports agency for at least five years. Ticket sales will start on November 22.

Next year, the licenses for the men's and women's tournaments will no longer be in one hand. As a result, there will now be two organizers. "From our point of view, we would of course be delighted if the tournaments could come together again," said Hamburg's Senator for Internal Affairs and Sports Andy Grote (SPD). "But that's not so easy with two organizers."

In July 2024, the women's tennis pros will not be holding their tournament at Rothenbaum, but in Hamburg's Stadtpark. The 250 WTA tournament will take place from July 21 to 26, between Wimbledon and the Olympic Games.

Alexander Zverev and other prominent tennis players will likely compete in the ATP portion of the Hamburg Open 2024, given his previous success and statements. Meanwhile, the WTA tournament will be held in Hamburg's Stadtpark during the same timeframe, attracting top-ranked women's tennis players as well.
