Osnabrück's Second Division team, VfL, is appealing their 20,000 Euro fine for fan protests to the DFB Bundesgericht. The team revealed this news on Wednesday. The club was penalized by the DFB Sports Court for fans' actions, such as tossing tennis balls onto the pitch and causing disruptions in three games at home.
Being the first club to challenge a penalty for fan demonstrations, Osnabrück initially failed in the DFB Sports Court. After evaluating the verdict's explanation, the potential Third-Division team decided to appeal to a higher court. Additional options include contacting the Standing Arbitration Court and a regular court, but the VfL has yet to make a decision regarding these paths.
Fans have been rallying against an investor's planned entry into the DFL with obstructions, tennis balls, and chocolate coins for numerous weeks. The arrangement eventually crumbled due to the persisting pressure from the supporters. Some clubs have informed authorities they'd consider waiving penalties.
