Experiencing Life in Full: A Daily Adventure - Tenants' group highlights right to have flood damage fixed
When water makes its way into apartment buildings or houses, the owner and landlord must take care of its removal and drying out. If the apartment is unusable because of weather damage, the tenant has the right to lower their rent. Any clause in a rental agreement that tries to restrict this right in cases of force majeure is considered invalid by the Tenants' Union. Tenants should take pictures to show the extent of the damage for insurance purposes. However, claims for damages against the landlord by renters are usually not accepted. The landlord is not obligated to protect against extremely rare natural disasters, the Tenants' Union points out.
