Animals - Ten rare newts new at Chemnitz Zoo

Visitors to Chemnitz Zoo can look forward to a rarity. Ten Anatolian crested newts (Triturus anatolicus) have moved into the vivarium. The animals arrived at the zoo in August as offspring from a private breeding farm, but can only now be seen by visitors, the zoo announced on Friday. It is the first and only zoological facility in Europe with this species.

The Anatolian crested newts can enjoy the best company at Chemnitz Zoo: four other species of the genus Triturus can be seen there. Anatolian crested newts were only described as a separate species in 2016 and live in the Asian part of Turkey.
