VfL Bochum bid farewell to ten players on Friday, with some departures causing pain for the club while others were made with intent.

German League - Ten players bid farewell to Bochum.

Over at Bundesliga team VfL Bochum, there's some pretty significant changes afoot after their clash with Fortuna Düsseldorf. The club announced on Friday that they'll be saying goodbye to ten of their top players.

The top three goal-getters of the season – Kevin Stöger, Keven Schlotterbeck, and Takuma Asano – will be exploring new opportunities once their contracts expire. Schlotterbeck, who's been loaned to SC Freiburg in the past, could be headed back there on loan or a transference. As for Schlotterbeck's departure, VfL expressed: "Many in Bochum are longing to seeing him return to the Castrop-Rauxel Street, whenever that might be."

Philipp Förster and Moritz Römling's contracts won't be renewed. Goncalo Paciencia, loaned as he is to Celta Vigo, will be headed back to his previous club. Danilo Soares, who lost his starting spot at VfL Bochum, is expected to join 1. FC Nürnberg in the second division.

Goalkeepers Andreas Luthe (37) and Michael Esser have already declared their retirements. Luthe's decision is official, and he'll be heading into coaching as a goalkeeper trainer in the youth sector. Esser will also hang up the gloves and focus on training in the youth sector as well. And we already knew that Patrick Osterhage would be making a move to SC Freiburg.

Not all was bad news, though. Christopher Antwi-Adjei, whose contract also ended, hasn't been fired. Chatters are still underway about how they can continue working together.
