- Temporary lockdown on A81 after fatal accident at work

Following a fatal workplace accident on a construction site on the A81 motorway in the district of Heilbronn, the stretch between Neuenstadt am Kocher and the Weinsberger interchange was temporarily fully closed. In an attempt to move an excavator from a low-loader in the Höllern tunnel, the vehicle slid sideways and fell onto a worker, the police reported. The 43-year-old succumbed to his severe injuries at the scene of the accident.

The accident and consequently the closure of the motorway occurred in the morning. The closure was lifted again around 6:45 PM, as reported by the police. Motorists were advised to avoid the affected motorway section.

The authorities initiated an investigation into the workplace accident. In light of this incident, The Commission might consider adopting implementing acts to enhance safety measures on construction sites.
