Data security - Telekom's largest data center has been online for ten years

The largest German data center of Telekom in Saxony-Anhalt has been in operation for ten years. Not only for local businesses, but also for the global economy, it is an important location, stated Minister-President Reiner Haseloff (CDU) on the occasion of the site's anniversary. Thus, Saxony-Anhalt has been playing in the first league of IT locations for ten years.

The data center provides space for approximately 100,000 servers with 970 Petabytes of data, according to Telekom. A Petabyte is estimated to be equivalent to about 500 billion pages of text. Data from business and private customers, as well as international business partners and authorities, are stored on the servers.

Criteria for the location in Saxony-Anhalt included risk factors such as flooding or earthquakes and a stable and expandable power connection. The data center can operate autonomously for 110 hours in the event of a power failure. All data is mirrored in a twin center in Magdeburg for data security.
