Process - Teenager allegedly strangled his own mother
Five months after the violent death of a woman in the Bavarian town of Münnerstadt, the Public Prosecutor's Office in Schweinfurt has charged the son of the victim. The office accuses the now 18-year-old of manslaughter. The teenager is alleged to have killed the 55-year-old woman during an argument and set the house on fire with her body inside, according to the Public Prosecutor's Office, which made the announcement on Tuesday in response to an inquiry. With the fire, the teenager is said to have attempted to conceal the crime.
The defendant reportedly admitted to the murder, it was stated. "The motive is based on the results of the investigation in an intrafamilial conflict situation." Further details were not disclosed due to the young suspect's age.
The Regional Court of Schweinfurt must now decide on the admissibility of the indictment. If a trial takes place, the proceedings will take place behind closed doors before a Youth Chamber, as stipulated by law when the proceedings concern a juvenile suspect alone. The German was taken into custody for investigation just a few days after the crime on February 17th.
