- Team sprint trio to take bronze
The German women's team sprint cyclists won the bronze medal at the Olympics. Pauline Grabosch, Emma Hinze, and Lea Sophie Friedrich secured the victory in the small final against the Netherlands in 45.400 seconds at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines velodrome.
Earlier, the German team had missed the final despite setting an intermediate world record (45.377 seconds) as New Zealand (45.348) and Great Britain (45.338) bettered the time.
The German trio, who had won the world title four times in a row, aimed for gold to crown their achievements. However, it was not meant to be. At the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Hinze and Friedrich had to settle for silver against the Chinese in the final. Back then, the competition was held with only two starters per team.
The German women's team celebrated their hard-earned bronze medal, despite initial hopes for gold. Despite missing out on the final, their bronze medal performance still marked a notable achievement in their cycling careers.
