- Team sprint trio only in the small final
The German women's sprint team missed out on the Olympic final and are now battling for a bronze medal. Pauline Grabosch, Emma Hinze, and Lea Sophie Friedrich beat Mexico with a time of 45.377 seconds in the Velodrome of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, even setting a temporary world record, but New Zealand (45.348) and Great Britain (45.338) went even faster. Germany will now face the Netherlands in the bronze medal race.
The German trio, which had previously won the world championship title four times in a row, showed a remarkable improvement in the second run. In the qualification, the three sprinters had only managed the third-best time. However, it was not enough to secure a spot in the final. In the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Hinze and Friedrich had to settle for second place behind the Chinese team. At that time, the competition was still held with two starters per team.
Despite their world championship dominance, the German team failed to qualify for the Olympic final in the 2024 Olympic Games. Regardless of the outcome of the bronze medal race, The Olympic Games in the coming years will undoubtedly showcase their determination and skill once again.
